The research of Prof. Paul Ekman (Ph.D) on lying led to the discovery of micro expressions, facial expressions connected to emotions that appear and disappear in a fraction of a second (up to a twenty-fifth of a second), due to their abrupt voluntary interruption (attempt at suppression). Expressions can manifest themselves on the whole face or just on a part of it (upper or lower part).

Following the creation of the Facial Action Coding System (FACS), Paul Ekman has developed and made available some online software, true learning trainings, useful for recognizing facial micro expressions and subtle expressions: the Micro Expression Training Tool and the Subtle Expression Training Tool.

Thanks to his Emotional Skills and Competencies (ESaC) method, it is possible to increase the awareness of one’s own emotions and recognize them in the interlocutor, in order to lead them towards successful relationships.

Paul Ekman has recently developed and made available the Evaluating Truthfulness and Credibility (ETaC) method, which allows to analyze every communication channel, in order to assess the credibility of the person or behaviors connected to lying.
